Climate Change Debate

There’s no debate about climate change. Despite all the noisy rhetoric, there is no synthesis in the climate polemic. Activists aver mordicus any more carbon dioxide and it’s the end of the world as we know it. Anyone who so much as questions the data, logic or agenda of climate change is a denialist. Yet, to billions, climate is just what is, and they rather ride it out without anyone telling them how to live.

According to Dr. James Hansen, climate scientist:

Ocean rise will make the world ungovernable

We must make the climate stable or face dire economic consequences.

Is that what climate is really about? Continuity of government and economic growth? Isn’t that what got us here in the first place? Climate alarmism is the one area of agreement between corporate/government and the eco-left. Whereas most pollution is the fault of wanton industrialization, and lax government oversight, so-called carbon pollution is emitted by each and every person. NO ONE will be exempt from the carbon tax!

There are many clear and present man-made hazards much more immediately dangerous than the future prospect of altered climate: drugs in waterways, nanofibers, fracking, radio waves, genetic engineering, Fukushima, nuclear war, and many more. Climate change poses a threat to human culture only. All these other hazards pose a threat to life itself. Will we worry about weather when we’re dead?

George Monbiot speaks of “Climate breakdown” Does he mean the climate can break down and no longer function as a climate? What does post-climate Earth look like?

Earth’s climate has been changing for billions of years. Problem is: it’s been so nice out that nowadays there’s lots of people everywhere and no place to run to. Stopping climate change is absurd childish fantasy, a simplistic mind control meme. No one really believes that even if everyone stopped moving immediately the climate would somehow freeze frame at that moment, like clocks at Hiroshima. The forces driving climate are so enormous no human effort could ever control them, even if billions of people could be controlled enough to try it. Despite an available century of climate records, analysis of data set trends, and computer modeling, the fact remains: no one knows for certain if it will be hotter or colder 100 years from now.  Without certain knowledge of future conditions, any global human effort to modify climate could be futile, or worse. This is a serious question the 350 Movement has never answered – Can climate be stopped or not?

Naomi Klein opines Climate change may be the kick in the pants we need to do things we need to do whether the climate is changing or not.

Does that mean she’s not sure about climate change either?

Meanwhile, well-meaning multitudes are mystified and manipulated by the fake data, faulty logic, and fascist agenda of climate activism. There are plenty of real reasons to reduce energy abuse. Stopping Earth’s climate changing is not one of them.

Climate Destruction

When climatology was novel, it was thought humanity was facing a fifth Ice Age, with all its terrifying destructive potential. Indeed, the mid to late 20th Century saw spectacular snow events. Snow piled up over people’s heads, closed down cities and towns, blocked railways and roadways. People took it in stride, adapted, made the best of it. Ski resorts were a growth industry, studded snow tires hit the market, snowmobiles became popular. School was cancelled, children went sledding, built snow forts. It’s a winter wonderland!

By the advent of the new millennium, three-day blizzards had become a rarity in the US. Less snow cover, and hotter, drier summers gave rise to a theory that Earth’s biosphere was gradually warming. Famous glaciers in Europe melted back, enormous bergs detached from previously stable Antarctic sea ice, Kilimanjaro lost its fabled snows. The phenomenon was dubbed “global warming” to reflect its omnipresence, yet uni-directionality. The frightening scenario of a feedback loop of runaway global warming in which Earth’s ambient temperature rises steadily until there is no liquid water to be found on the surface spurred an environmental movement purposed to limit such warming to preserve human habitat. Global warming was said to threaten the economy, threaten national security, threaten human existence, even threaten Earth Herself with planetary destruction. As stewards of Earth, many humans took it upon themselves to Stop Global Warming. Very noble!

Deadlines for tipping points were set, and passed repeatedly without attendant climate failure. Floods and droughts, freezes and heat-waves seemed more severe than previously, taking an alarming toll of burgeoning human populations residing on marginal lands, but in terms of overall ambient temperature they canceled each other out. Not wanting to appear ridiculous, weather alarmists reframed the crisis as “climate change”. Climate change theory differs from global warming theory in that it is not uni-directional. An extended period of no net increase in ambient temperatures is not antithetical to climate change theory. Duration, depth and damage of weather events are today’s parameters of climate change. The rallying cry of atmosphere stability activists is Stop Climate Change! Very noble! But stupid.

Whereas with global warming theory, it is obvious should such a trend continue for many years, presently inhabited territories could become inhospitable for humans, or even life itself; with climate change theory, any change is cause for alarm, whether temperature climbs or drops. Fear of change is a human quality. All animals live where they are until they die. Humans, however, can foresee the effects upon their lives of changing conditions, and actively desire conditions not to change. Yanomamo, Tuareg, Inuit all prefer their home town to remain familiar, whether forest, desert or tundra. Radical environmental change results in dispossession, displacement, disaster for tribal man and urbane man. Can change be stopped?

Everywhere are signs of cataclysmic Earth changes: mountains thrust skyward by tectonic pressure, then ground down by the weight of miles-deep ice sheet that covered half the planet, remains of marine life thousands of feet above current sea level, indigenous artifacts dredged from deep water offshore attest to radical shifts in surface conditions of global scope. Widespread vulcanism covered Earth with blankets of ash yards thick, repeatedly. Marine deposits on high plateaus are mute witness to towering tidal surges that flooded entire

continents. Aggregates of shredded trees and crushed animal bones point to cataclysmic events that destroyed entire ecosystems. Huge craters in Canada, Arizona, Mexico prove that Earth has been struck by space objects large enough to perturb the planet’s trajectory through the cosmos, and rotational momentum, repeatedly. Such perturbations cause sheer forces that propel continents and displace seas. Though Earth changes on such a scale have not been seen for over 2,000 years, there are historical accounts of terrain upheaval, flooding, and space objects. Bible stories about the great flood, and parting of the waters may be allegory about the potency of the Word of God, or may be based on true fact of abrupt changes in sea level during the Age of Man. Any such cataclysmic events occurring today would certainly destroy modern civilization and kill most of humanity, as excavated sites show has occurred, repeatedly. Lithosphere stability activists should be chanting Stop Earth Change!

Actually that is not so absurd as it might seem. Today the old saw Everybody talks about the weather, but nobody does anything about it! is obsolete. The foundation of the global warming/climate change paradigm is Earth’s ambient temperature is controlled by atmospheric carbon dioxide – the so-called greenhouse effect. Though CO2 concentration in clean air is less than a tenth of a percent, minute increases in CO2 concentrations are said to cause significant increases in retention of solar heat, causing warming. What is the cause of minute increases in CO2 concentration? People - human beings, 21st Century hominids.

Everything people do releases CO2. From switching on a light, to eating a burger, to starting a car, to the very act of exhaling a breath, all humans release CO2 into the atmosphere constantly. Carbon is the essential building block of all life on Earth, extracted from airborne CO2 by plants to build tissue.  But how much is enough? Human generated CO2 causes climate change! Stop Human Caused Climate Change! inevitably progresses to Stop Humans!

Or does it? Appealing as a popular mea culpa may be to billions facing unwanted change, the numbers do not add up. The effect of all of civilization’s pollution today is less than that of a single volcanic eruption that propelled hundreds of billions of tons of particulates and CO2 into the atmosphere in a single event. That was less than 150 years ago. Good thing there’s no video, or people might conclude it is not their fault.

Infatuation with “carbon pollution” is a smokescreen, so the speak, providing cover for more potent, and more menacing cause of atmospheric warming – radiation. Certainly solar radiation warms Earth, which without sunshine would be a lifeless, frozen space rock. Add to that the effect of 2200 detonations of nuclear weapons, Three Mile Island, Chernoble, and Fukujima all of which spewed tons of hot radioactive isotopes high into the sky to destroy the ozone layer. Super power radar arrays cause ionospheric heating that shapes wind patterns, forms storms and triggers earthquakes. For years militaries have boasted weather modification technique is a main battle force multiplier. The technology exists. The question becomes: Would power-mad alien nihilists use it? Stop High Altitude Climate Change!

Earth Changes

From the Mid Coast Sub Church of Paranoia, this is Reverend Doktor C. Sarian, with a special paranoid report.

Climate change continues unabated, but not undebated. The loudest voices are left-liberal climate change advocates who insist climate change can be stopped if only billions of climate deniers can be convinced change is inevitable. Then after a hard day at the roadblock, they drive home, pop a frozen pizza in the microwave and click on Netflix. Meanwhile, billions of benighted climate change deniers are doing nothing at all to stop the climate changing.

Many hardcore deniers believe climate change is God’s punishment for human homosexuality. Obviously, geologic evidence of climate is the result of gay marriage between dinosaurs.

The most dangerous deniers are those cosmologists who for some reason expect people to believe the Sun, largest, most powerful local energy source, has something to do with Earth’s climate, and always has. Absurd. They are funded by the petroleum industry.

The ultimate narcissism of the left is the anthropocentric certainty climate change can be arrested if people could be arrested for releasing carbon. But it will take a lot more than panic purchases of heavy metal light bulbs and metal-free lightweight cars to arrest climate change. The greatest addiction of all is to instant access to energy systems. Modern man has become dependent upon unlimited available power from fossilized organic material converted to electricity and liquid fuels. No one will voluntarily renounce reliance upon outsourced energy. Nothing short of the global eco-fascism of Agenda 21 will curb human demand for more energy.

Environmentalism is ego-logical, not eco-logical. Its concern is not natural ecosystems, but managed habitat for perpetual population growth. Should Earth become an urban jungle, with a hundred billion humans living in cells, absorbing carefully regulated doses of energy? Or an actual jungle in which humans are so rare they could never affect ecosystems? Which is scarier?

Earth change is here. Seas are rising, or drying up. Ice is melting, or advancing. Floods, droughts, blizzards, heat waves, typhoons, earthquakes, tsunamis, sandstorms, whirlwinds are in the forecast!

Earth changes! Get over it!

Flat Earth, 9/11, Global Warming and Consensus Science

Not too long ago a consensus of academics held that Earth was flat, only about 6,000 miles across, that anyone sailing beyond the horizon would fall off, and oh.. Earth was the center of the universe. Amazingly complex models were devised to explain observed celestial motion, clerics debated the finer points of geo centricity eventhough 3,000 years previously Babylonian scholars had shown Earth to be a globe, and oh.. burned skeptics alive. Today people “know” Earth is a globe, though most would be hard pressed to prove it, or even say how they know. For them it’s a matter of faith, not science.

More recently billions of people watched planes strike two buildings, buildings catch fire, buildings go boom and fall down! One, two, and oh.. three. Amazingly complex models were available the very next day to explain away the anomalous occurrences. Talk about building consensus! The consensus was: Arab terrorists who hated freedom snuck utility knives past security on four flights, simultaneously detouring them precisely to prominent targets on U.S. soil, and oh..one plane didn’t make it and wound up scattered over 8 miles of Pennsylvania countryside after passengers bravely retook control of the aircraft from skyjackers armed with lethal 1” blades, but were subsequently unable to prevent the jet from exploding in midair and striking terrain. The consensus stands, despite a chorus of informed rebuttal from thousands of witnesses, professionals, and scientists. Skeptics weren’t burned at the stake, but they might as well have been. Any mention of doubt about the official account could result in termination of one’s employment. Today of course, people “know” a guy in a cave pulled all the strings in the security, aviation and defense apparatus that allowed 9/11 to happen, despite that the FBI says it has no evidence. For them it is a matter of compliance, not science.

A very long time ago clouds of swirling gas coalesced into what English speaking humans now call Earth. For a billion years it seethed and burned, lifeless, yet not inactive. Eventually the surface cooled to the point life could take root. Billions of years later the surface was so comfortable there were billions of humans. A consensus of human scientists declared any further change in those comfortable conditions was due to bad things people did to keep from freezing, starving or being bored to death. They pointed to a record of increasing temperatures, a spate of hurricanes, floods, droughts, and oh.. blizzardsin areas that had no snow in living memory. Amazingly complex models were computer generated to explain how the single cause of warming by human released CO2 could produce such an array of diverse climatic effects. Skeptics who questioned the hypotheses about CO2 linked warming were labeled “deniers” to discredit any critique of myopic embrace of new technology, protect tenure for global warming research, and oh.. sustain an emerging market in carbon release credits. Luckily today people “know” compact fluorescents will arrest climate change, though they can’t explain the connection, don’t realize the new bulbs are toxic, and couldn’t say whether weather will be warmer, or cooler. For them it is a matter of conscience, not science.

It is no more conclusive to state a consensus of scientists agree about global warming than it is to claim seven out of ten dentists recommend Crust. Scientific method does not provide for plebiscite research. It doesn’t matter how many scientists hold something to be true. The only thing that matters is whether theories provide reliable predictions. So far “global warming” has produced every kind of weather imaginable, which does not adequately prove the AGW theory to be valid. Meanwhile, any policy based upon unproven theory may prove to be much worst than invalid.

Global Warning

There is no idea so stupid that the great majority has not at one time believed in it.

Gore Vidal

Though with today’s burgeoning human population hundreds of thousands of sub-prime humans living on marginal lands may die in extreme weather events, the real risk posed by climate change is to profitability. Consumerism was developed within the context of a certain climate modality, which during several decades of unprecedented economic growth remained relatively constant, predictable, clement. With the return of floods, blizzards, droughts and storms common in pre-industrial history, the toll on infrastructure has been severe. Trans-national corporations report profits in the billions of dollars, but they actually operate on a very slender margin of cheapest bid design and construction, rare and meager upkeep of installations. As systems that seemed progressive in the 20thcentury decay in the 21st, dollar return on rebuilding and maintaining roads, bridges, schools, rail, pipe and power lines has diminished to a trickle. As a result, companies that grew to global size off the public largesse are switching from building and repairing physical infrastructure to providing lucrative financial services in order to sustain profits. It only follows that when the lights go out or a bridge is washed away, the blame should fall on people for not doing something about climate change.

“Changing light bulbs” memes green awareness. All climate activists reference this simple solution to “carbon pollution” that anyone can do today simply by discarding out of date, energy wasteful tungsten filament bulbs and replacing with new fangled compact fluorescent bulbs. Packaging touts higher light output at lower wattage ratings. More for less! is the holy grail of consumerism, sufficient rationalization for adopting the new technology. Paradoxically though, turning CFLs off shortens their useful life, so in order to derive the maximum light output from a CFL it must be left on continuously, even when it is not needed. Whistleblowers declare the ratings are falsified anyway. Though the bulbs are expensive, toxic, and blinding, the worst risks are unknown to the public. Organic mercury vapor is harmful to the nervous system. Billions of broken fluorescent bulbs have already contaminated the environment with mercury. Vibrating mercury vapor in the bulbs resonates with mercury in the body, increasing its toxicity. As if that were not bad enough, fluorescent bulbs flicker, unlike the warm sun-like analog glow of incandescent, sending coded information through AC power lines as a carrier wave todeliver commands directly to the brain via the optic nerve.

People are expected to believe the profit motivation is the only motivation. They are just trying to make a buck, doing their jobs, growing the economy… Nothing wrong with that! But why would corporate/government and environmentalists both want you to use bulbs that blind your eyesight, that poison your nerves, that flicker codes into your brain, and which should be left on 24/7 for maximum efficiency? Just to save the world by selling less electricity?

There is something lemming-like in the way otherwise thoughtful, caring individuals adopt the corporate/government paradigm that people cause the climate to change by having purchased and used energy wasteful products, the solution to which is to discard those products and buy new, less wasteful products. Does it not seem odd that placing the responsibility for extreme weather events on the masses yearning to be free is an unique area of agreement between the military/industrial complex and the environmental movement? Can anyone truly believe the mass retail marketplace will be the crucible where a stable climate will be forged? Are people so stupid as to believe a bulb that shouldn’t be turned off is less wasteful than a bulb that can?

Global warming proselytizers rely upon appeals to emotion rather than logic. To that end the most illogical claims may be heard, claims any ten year old has enough Earth science to question. They apparently do not recognize that patently idiotic statements undermine the credibility of the argument. Here are a few zingers, with their logical conclusions:Climate change has been set in motion – indeed, by the formation of the galaxy. Vast consensus that humans are the cause of climate change - which proves only the vastness of human ignorance. Erosion began with agriculture – the Grand Canyon was formed 2,000 years ago by runoff from aboriginal corn and squash gardens. Human activity initiated climate change – Earth’s climate was static prior to antediluvian policy blunders, which resulted in mass extinctions of dinosaurs. If people do nothing there will be climate change; that is self-evident, but meaningless. Combat climate change - humans do battle against elemental forces of nature. Fix climate change - climate is like a delicate watch humans broke, and now must repair. Stop climate change – climate, like an onrushing train, must be flagged to a stop. Prevent climate change - if there were only some prophylaxis against climatic fluctuations. Solve climate change - climate is a global riddle intended to test and perplex humans.

The inescapable conclusion is: If people do something, or do nothing, there will be climate change. But one thing is for certain - no matter how Earth’s climate changes, humans won’t like it.

In the final analysis it all comes down to, as is so often the case, human politics. Even if a majority of humans can be convinced a “consensus” of scientists believes human economic activity is worsening the weather, it will take a lot more than convincing to make people forgo energy use. The “Green” world envisioned by global warming zealots will visit harsh penalties on a broad underclass for any frivolous use of energy, from driving an auto, to stoking the woodstove, to turning on a light, in order that a select minority of managers may enjoy jet-set lifestyle without pushing the world’s sweetestwatering spots, ski slopes and yacht havens past any tipping points.

Concern for the planet is largely narcissistic human vanity. Humans perceive loss of their preferred habitat as “the end of the world”, which today is conflated in pop culture with planetary destruction. However distant that overwhelming cataclysm may be, whether one is a Save-the-planet-save-yourself ascetic, or a Pull-out-the-stops-and-live-the-good-life playboy, the human urge to preserve a perceived set of circumstances will always be outraged by the inexorable forces that shape Earth’s destiny. From a cosmic perspective,it is fatuous and farcical in the extreme for puny humans to presuppose their own influence upon Nature could possibly affect the course of planetary evolutions. That said,it is certain humans have the capacity to foul their own nest to the point of extinguishing terrestrial life for a million years. But what is a million year wait to a planet that is billions of years old? A million years is but a moment of geologic time. Every day cosmic dust rains more DNA down into Earth’s atmosphere. When it is nice out again, life will grow anew, and maybe next time the humans will be smarter than these ones were clever.

Happy Earthday!

Earth Day 2024 came and went. Earth is still here, and so is pollution. Earth Day was celebrated at local supermarkets by having school children draw pictures of trees and flowers on the stores’ shopping bags, while cadres of purposeful volunteers collected the winter’s roadside trash in plastic bags to weigh for credit at the transfer station. That should protect the environment!

What is environment anyway? Environment is habitat, a place where people live. It includes land, air and water. Without any one of those things there is no environment, and people cannot live there: desert, abyss, space. Sure, people can go there, but only in a mechanical micro-environment: car, suit, ship. Though to some, the urge to explore extreme conditions is irresistible, the bulk of humanity desire clement weather, clean water, and natural surroundings for their habitat. Humans evolved in such habitat, are adapted to lush, rain-forest landscapes.

As more humans were born, population pressure sparked conflict. Groups of humans migrated far from the African crucible of mankind, eventually to cover the planet with billions. Tool-handling prowess and organizational acumen allowed ascendancy to a dominant position of culture over nature. Desertification, pollution, extinction are the result of man’s madcap compulsion to create habitat, to make a real nice place to raise the kids up.

But what about everyone else, all those other life forms? Where do they get to live? Animals and plants don’t care about environment. They live where they are until they die.

Animals and plants do not need environment; they depend upon ecosystems. While environment is a place for people to live, ecosystem is a fabulously complex interaction of living and inert matter that creates a seething froth, an irrepressible zest of digestion, growth and reproduction. And death. Life is made of life and death. As one organism dies, others take on its essence to nourish their own lives.

Talk of destroying the planet is nonsense. There is nothing people could do that would destroy Earth. That said, humans are careless about fouling their own nest until conditions are intolerable for life. Not just their life, but all life. Or rather, most life. The geological record shows a series of cataclysmic events that resulted in mass die-offs of many species, and subsequent reorganization of ecosystems. Despite repeated depopulations, for half a billion years life has tenaciously occupied Earth.

No matter how toxic man’s endeavors be, it is all of Earth, and eventually will return to Earth – dust to dust, rust to rust. Even the filthiest urban wasteland will revert to pristine field and forest given enough time. In only say – 500,000 years all heavy isotopes will have decayed, “forever” chemicals will have dissolved, plastics will have degraded; there will be no pollution. Probly because there will be no people.  Can that distant future tragedy be averted? Should it be?

It Doesn’t Matter

Two competing world views: preserving human civilization with global patrist structuring – social uniformity, genetic manipulation, crop monoculture, ubiquitous surveillance, financial control by admiralty law - to save lives; or preserving human community by reawakening matrist culture of diversity in harmony with natural law of biological systems, to save life. They are mutually exclusive in that spoliation of ecosystems interdicts biodynamism, and by setting an example of freedom, tribal culture poses an existential threat to the CONspiracy.

The thrust of globalism is an historical dynamic for thousands of years. All empires are globalist in nature, even in antiquity. They just did not know how large the globe really is. From Alexander to Hitler, they all would have kept on going until they reached the sea – then they would have kept on going. Soon with the space program, globalism will seem parochial compared to Solarism - the consolidation of human civilizations on other planets, their moons, under a Supreme Leader. Why stop there? Galactism could be in the stars for humanity. Why should reach exceed grasp of a Galactic Gauleiter? The sky is hardly the limit for patrist hierarchical structuring. “Universal” already means everyone, but what if humans, using globalist tactics – drug addiction, deception, detention, destruction – would eventually colonize and control the entire Universe? They would be Unitary  Universalists.

Well no, probly not. There might be someone with deviant enough psychopathy who would yearn to rule the Universe, but honestly, globalism on one Earth is already quite absurd. It’s simple mathematics. In 100 years everyone alive today will be dead. In 1000 years their memory will be dead. In 100,000 years there will be no remaining trace of anyone alive today. So why worry? 100,000 years is less than a typical period of continental glaciation. There are places on earth that have not been glaciated, but places that have show evidence of total annihilation of absolutely everything from hard rock mountains to entire biomes, nothing left except pulverized debris deposited in enormous piles called moraines when the ice eventually melted due to human activity. The last was only 14,000 years ago. That’s nothing!

So what if climate changes? It won’t be the first time. People are concerned they might need an extra sweater, or canteen. Ha! Everywhere are signs of climate change far beyond anything seen in history. A mile deep, the Grand Canyon’s strata were laid down at the bottom of the sea over millions of years, then carved by runoff from the North American glacier which covered the continent with ice a mile thick. That’s a lot of water! They say when the last few little ice sheets melt, 84 million people will have to leave their coastal homes in 2050 when the sea rises. Why would they wait that long?

The notion that the planet will be destroyed by man-made climate change is childish nonsense. It doesn’t matter what people do - Nature, and Time heal all wounds. Grass sprouts through cracks in pavement of abandoned shopping mall parking lots. Trees grow through broken windows of rusty wrecked cars. On Mount Desert Island, where 100 years ago what was an auto road, today is grown up in forest trees big enough two people can’t get arms around. Pavement is hard, but flesh is strong. Ultimately, life is the most potent force of Nature. The only thing climate change will destroy is man’s comfort zone. Life goes on regardless, though perhaps not the life known to men during the recent few moments of sidereal time.

Nanoplastic

The current era is known to science as the Anthropocene, for the presence of humans. Future archeologists may refer to the coming era as the Plasticene, for the presence of plastic.  It is plain fact that artificial polymerized resin products, commonly referred to as “plastic” for their malleability, are ubiquitous and permanent in Earth’s biosphere. And increasing! 460 million tons of resin products are manufactured in one year. From the deepest abyss to the loftiest peak, permeating flesh of all living beings, tiny particles of plastic are to be found in great number everywhere. However, “particles” is not an adequate term for sub-microscopic strings of molecules detached from resin aggregate. These substances are highly durable, are not biodegradable, and persist in the environment. Plastic never goes away, it just gets smaller. Truncated hydrocarbon polymer chains are tiny enough to enter cells, invade the brain. However sheer plastic surfaces may appear, all resin products continually shed molecules as the matrix disintegrates. Chemical industry apologists assert disingenuously Plastic is “just particles”, like dust, which are captured and expelled by mucus. Serious study has shown, on the contrary, that the qualities of resin compounds make them as a class significantly more hazardous to health than plain soil dust. Their tiny size and lipid-philic nature allow them to permeate tissue easily. With increasing contamination of municipal water supply, more people are turning to bottled water. Greenwashing water bottlers tout Less Plastic! in their containers. However, the flimsy new bottles crunch easily, releasing more plastic into contents. Flexing, heating, oily contents increase surface leaching from even “food quality” plastic, releasing trillions of molecule-size fragments into food, into bodies. One industry stooge mused If people only knew how much plastic is in their food! Recent research shows razor-sharp shards of plastic embedded in brain tissue, causing inflammation. Brain inflammation may be linked to the epidemic of Alzheimer’s. More likely brain inflammation is the root of the epidemic of madness currently sweeping the world.

But don’t worry, be happy! Nothing can be done about it, and They are not going to stop. Better to focus on contrived distractions like climate alarmism, gender confusion, immigration enforcement, renewed pandemic, and the war than fret about chronic illness from worsening plastic pollution. It is what is.

Record Cold

Record cold threatens climate. “Climate change” substituted for "global warming" after a decade of no rise in overall temperature, is understood as code for warming. But what if climate is not warming?

In the 1970s, climate change was cooling - several severe winters pressed the point. “Energy crisis” drove fear there would not be enough petroleum-based fuels to keep people from freezing to death in their recliner chairs.  Luckily with fracking, and war, more liquid fuels flooded the market, price sank; more people drove more cars. Global temperature rose. Whew! Dodged a glacier that time!  But wait a second! What about runaway warming? If current trends continue, by 2020 people will be cooking in their recliners.

Well, that didn’t happen. Under lockdown people did not drive at all. Now severe winter weather has killed citizens and destroyed property in southern states. Not unprecedented, extreme cold conditions pose a greater hazard amid urban congestion, decaying infrastructure, cultural complacency. Human-cause climate change must be really sensitive to traffic counts. More people should drive more. Stop climate change!

The Fifth Scenario

It's been pretty crazy so far in the twenty first century. Everyone needs hope for the future, and sometimes it is the darkest hour when you need it most. But there is no absolute hope. One's hope is another's despair. Nevertheless hope still stirs people to grasp for it. Since the world is less bewildering with a view of the path ahead, the Mid-Coast Sub-Church of Paranoia, paradoxically, is offering hopeful visions of future scenarios. However, a number of people have misunderstood (Thanks for writing folks!); apparently they think the hopeful scenarios are a menu of choices from which they may select. These aren't options people! Each scenario will unfold in the fullness of time. It's simply unclear how fast, where and in what proportions.

Hopeful Scenario 1: Status Quo. Maintaining the suburban lifestyle is at once the most hoped for and the most hopeless. Suburbanites are hopeful that tomorrow their cars, celphones and credit cards will still work. That will require unfettered corporate access to resources, increasingly regressive taxation, further abridgement of civil liberties and ever harsher application of military force foreign, and domestic. Expanding economic activity and emerging technologies will provide solutions to problems before they become too acute to be managed, and progress will be driven by the fascination men find in their own works, as well as by their acquisitive nature. Still they realize subconsciously it is hopeless because the system is predicated on phalse profits. That gives rise to a countercurrent of hope the whole mess can be transcended inexpensively and painlessly, but that is hopeless too because it is so selfish. Dilemma leads to neurosis, neuroses lead to decadence, decayleads to decline. At least suburbia isn't endless. That's hopeful!

Hopeful Scenario 2: Earth Change. Not much can be done about it. Pressure of culture on biosphere, long term cyclical dynamics of climate change, tectonic action and cosmological events will combine to cause a radical reorganization of Earth's surface environment which destroys almost the totality of human culture. The planet could even become inhospitable to vertebrate evolution. People might go underground or something, but it is all a matter of degrees, centigrade. Hope is it will be a cleansing of Earth's surface and near Earth space as a substrate for evolution of more advanced life forms.

Hopeful Scenario 3: Global Revolution. The world's poor will not be denied. They too want comfortable lifestyle, freedom from fear and full enfranchisement as citizens, though it may surprize suburbanites to learn how many of them have no desire for petrochemical derivative consumer products or vulgar pop culture. An unstoppable flood of ragged, brown skinned individuals eager to Get Some! will flow into suburban neighborhoods in all "developed" countries and will effect a radical redistribution of the means and ends of exploitation of Earth's resources and access to technology. Ask yourself: if you could forestall revolutionary violence by giving up half your stuff would you forgo half your cars? Half your electrical power? Half your food? Half your clothing? Upon your answer depends how much violence the revolution will require. Of course, they'll want it all..

Hopeful Scenario 4: Ecotopia. The fortunate people of Earth will suddenly awaken, and voluntarily renounce suburban lifestyle and abolish the warfare state in favor of global equality and fair trade. Activists will finally end counterrevolutionary fratricide, and building a worldwide united front, will spark a revulsion of feeling across the globe against patrist corporate structuring. Rank and file everywhere will down tools, quit their jobs, stop buying stuff and start building sustainable communities with local character and global awareness. Communes, co-ops, land trusts, ecopeace villages, nature conservancies, credit unions, workers' collectives, student committees and peoples' academies will replace outmoded boards of directors, cabinets and military commands as the organizational structures of human culture. People's attention will be directed toward frank inquiry, conduits for sharing, advancement of social justice and protection of natural ecosystems. Profit, force and limited liability will be replaced with harmony, peace and love. Promotion of the arts, advancements in health and education, development of psi powers and membership in the off-world community are the dividends that will accrue to all people. Hope is that everyone will live happily ever after.

To respondants this is the best hopeful scenario. Oddly though they don't seem to have much hope we can get there from here. But wouldn't it be nice! Clean air, clean water, efficient public transportation, beautiful cities, beautiful countryside, plenty of wilderness, no poverty, no crime, no war. It's a conundrum! So many want to live this scenario, but they don't believe in it enough to make it happen! Hopeless!

So here's the alternate ultimate hopeful scenario as foreseen by Johnnypod:

Hopeful Scenario 5: The Rupture. Hilarious Econocataclysm. Determined grassroots efforts to float anarcho-syndicalism are swamped by the mindless nihilism of free market fundamentalist fascism as economy implodes and ecosphere collapses. The excrement really strikes the ventilator. It's way worst than anyone ever even imagined. Disruption, destruction, chaos - no more toilet paper! Luckily everyone is so cynical and inured to stragedy by media violence it's a riot! It's like this movie they saw on SCI FI TV once where the world ends but the guy gets to kiss the gal while mutant dinosaurs devour shoppers, and an armada of alien battle cruisers vacuum up the atmosphere just before the asteroid hits, and everyone dies laughing! Been there! Done that! Got the T-shirt! Meanwhile the SubGenius board the escape vessels in an orderly manner, with all the SLACK in the world, as billions of deserving sinners fry in hell on Earth. The hope for humans is that they get to go with a smile on their lips.

These scenarios will come to pass, just as a flower buds, then opens. For the present, status quo will be maintained, but cracks are forming - people are already falling through - and they won't be getting any smaller. Earth changes are around us always. An era of particularly clement weather has allowed patrist civilization to fester. How long will it be before the planet proves it is bigger than man? Earth changes will accompany and intensify the political changes involved in the other scenarios. As status quo disintegrates, popular revolution will fill any void. As soon as occupying troops are gone, all areas will revert to control by local populations driven by local needs. How voluntary or violent the change will be depends entirely upon political will. This factor is wholly elective and more than any other will affect the outcome of the scenario. Ecotopia is where all are headed. What is uncertain is how long it will take and which will arrive there. Human culture, if it is to be sustained, must become sustainable. If not, then the fifth scenario will become a certainty.

The changes are happening already. For the time being there are more malls than organic farms, it's still nice out and insurgents are being kept in check, just. Some areas are ahead of their time: Haiti had four hurricanes in a row and the South Asian basin had the largest tsunamis on record, Spain's fascist government was voted out after popular revulsion at official lies, and photovoltaics developed for the space program are making off grid electricity an affordable reality.

So have hope! Don't think there is nothing you can do. Everything you do has an impact on the world, on the future. Every action, every thought is a choice that determines what the next choice will be. These things will happen all right, but it is up to humans how it all happens.

Virtue Signalling

Like wearing a blue mask, and waving a blue and yellow flag, owning an “electric” automobile seems evolutionary, but it is just virtue signaling. Medical masks have been amply shown to have no effect on transmission of viral disease in public. Displaying the Ukraine flag in America is obedient applause for perpetual war for profit on behalf of drug dealers, arms merchants, slave traders and fascist militias. Likewise, proudly driving an “electric” auto has little effect on levels of greenhouse gases, particularly inasmuch as most electricity is generated by combustion of fossil fuels. Nuclear power generation adds the manifold hazards of ionizing radiation release, and rad-waste disposal.

Whatever the primary power producer, “electric” cars, like myriad modern, disposable gizmos, require rare earth minerals in their manufacture. The environmental footprint of extraction, and exploitative nature of industry are destructive to natural ecosystems and oppressive to native people. Lithium, cobalt, manganese, palladium, copper, gold are mined most profitably in third world countries where there is no environmental enforcement, health protection, or human rights for impoverished workers and residents, including children. That is comfort for consumers of high-tech products in the first world, hugging themselves as heroes in the frontline of environmentalism, and humanitarianism, for saving themselves pennies per mile at the pump.

Warm Globe -- Hot Globe

Democracy Now! aired a segment on Fukushima. Rare as it is for her to take on a controversial subject, and as much as it was a change up from the dire global warming blitzkrieg, Amy predictably allied herself with CONspiracy media and the power industry by soft-balling her guest who dismissed concerns about the effects of the accident at Daiichi.

To call it an accident is deeply hypocritical. Deliberate proliferation of hazardous processes for purposes of profit, lacking adequate design, trials or controls in areas of seismic activity can hardly be called “accidental” when natural forces overcome their structural stability. But it has to be accidental, because nuclear generation is a force of nature. So it can’t be a result of global warming.

Global warming and the release of radioactivity are the ecological polemic du jour. One is man made and threatens the planet, the other is natural and no particular cause for alarm. Can you guess which one is which?

Of radiation: it hardly exceeds the natural background, it’s nobody’s fault, the hazards are debatable, release is unlikely, risk is minimal, exposure is inconsequential, wildlife kills are unrelated, high readings are anecdotal, contamination has dissipated, deaths are unconfirmed, disaster was averted.

Of global warming: it is anthropogenic, or everybody’s fault, 2 degrees increase will damage the global environment - ice will melt, seas will rise, deserts will flood, rain will cease, water tables will drop, or a new ice age will cover the globe with glaciers. One hundred years from now everyone will be drowned, or parched, burnt or frozen, and to stop climate change everyone must buckle down to austerity or disaster is inevitable.

It is easy to believe global warming dogma like Human activity initiated climate change, or Soil erosion began with agriculture; tipping points, runaway warming, feedback mechanisms, carbon footprint - unless one has some natural science education.

It is hard to believe radiation warning dogma like Highly radioactive materials can not be handled, stored or disposed safely, or Ingestion of radioactive materials will result in illness and death; half-life, mutations, alpha emitters, cancer - unless one has some natural science education.

The point is it doesn’t matter what is. The only thing that matters is what people believe. If people believe humans caused the climate to change, then by golly, humans can stop the climate from changing. And if people believe radiation is safe, then by gum, it can’t hurt you. Or them. And that’s really the point. It’s all about crowd control. They want people hysterical, but They do not want panic!

So don’t worry too much, just do your part! Replace all your inefficient old –fashionedlight bulbs with bright new CFLs, and eat lots of fresh or canned Pacific caught seafood. Everything will be all right!
